Gerard Caliste

Gerard Caliste, YA '94

This past April, Gerard Caliste (YA '94) was the first YA/YA artist to have a solo opening in Los Angeles. Gerard's "Magiciticy" series was unveiled at Lois Lambert Gallery in Santa Monica on April 4. Gerard joined YA/YA as a high school student at Rabouin in 1994. While at YA/YA, he studied with Willie Birch and Nanette Carter, among many other established artists.

Like many YA/YAs, Gerard points to the travel opportunities after traveling to Georgia with YA/YA, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design. He currently works as an art teacher in Houston.

Gerard's haunting work since Hurricane Katrina has combined the dream-like and fantastical with the harsh realism of human disorientation and tragedy. The works pictured here are part of his Waterlines series, exhibited in New Orleans at the LeMieux Gallery. YA/YA congratulates Gerard, our illustrious alum!
