YA/YA conducts a 10 day cair painting workshop at John Ehret High School in Jefferson Parish. October 23 - November 3, 2006

"Artists from the nationally acclaimed organization YA/YA have enabled students at Ehret to experience the YA/YA chair making process of changing old and worn furniture into whimsical pieces of art and products for sale. Students repaired, prepped, designed and painted chairs that had been discarded from schools within the system."
YA/YA artists Sexton Wright and Madania Graves mentored 23 students in the workshop. An art exhibit and sale was held at John Ehret on December 6th. Some of the chairs were donated to the Dollars for Scholars Auction and the others were on sale with the proceeds going to the classes involved in the project. A special thanks goes out to Ms. Ann McLeod, the art teacher, Coach James Bridges, General Technology Instructor and Ms. Freddi Evans, the Artist Facilitator for the Jefferson Parish School System's Special Programs. We thanks these wonderful participants for helping YA/YA share our unique program with the youth of Jefferson Parish.
