Empowerment
at Heart

YA/YA would like to acknowledge Timeka Junius for her dedication and continued
work to empower youth in our community. Timeka, a native of New Orleans and YA/YA
Alumni, has contracted with YA/YA over the past three years as an Urban Heroes
mentor. She began her mentoring role with the organization in 2003 at McNair
Elementary, where she worked for two years. After Katrina, Timeka was the first
YA/YA artist to move back to the city with her family and begin her new lead
mentoring role at the New Orleans Science and Math High School. Over the past
year, Timeka has developed her abilities not only in mentoring, but also in planning,
managing, tracking, and supervising YA/YA Urban Heroes projects. Her commitment
and hard work has earned her the new role as YA/YA’s Urban Heroes Program
Coordinator.
