In our efforts to empower young artists and help them become self-sufficient, we believe it is crucial to develop their leadership and advocacy skills. To this end, YA/YA has devised two programs to address these interests, Urban Heroes and Paint the World. |

 Urban Heroes – Local Outreach
Urban Heroes is a comprehensive program that creates two exciting leadership opportunities for our artists, one serving as a Mentor and the other as an Ambassador. With the goal of strengthening YA/YA presence in the community, the program helps our artists gain exposure, improves their professionalism, and increases public awareness and support of our organization.

Mentors
During their time at YA/YA, our artists learn techniques through our artistic programs, practice their skills in the studio, and, in turn, teach these basic skills to peers.

Ambassadors
Through the second component of the Urban Heroes program, our artists share YA/YA history and their personal art experiences with the general public at gallery openings, recruitment visits to various Orleans Parish schools, and other special events in the greater New Orleans area.
The Ambassador component of Urban Heroes is also about giving back to the community, and thus requires YA/YA artists to volunteer community service hours. |

Paint the World – National and International Outreach
Paint the World is a program that provides unique travel opportunities to YA/YA artists. For many artists, these trips are their first opportunity to explore the world outside of New Orleans. Expanding their vision and knowledge and proving them with networking, personal growth, and career opportunities are key elements of what makes this program such a valuable and life changing experience.
Six YA/YA artists traveled to San Francisco to demonstrate YA/YA chair painting inside the Macy's flagship store located in downtown San Francisco. The artists spent part of the day working on the chairs, while the rest of their time was dedicated to experiencing the different sights and sounds of a new city.
