How We YAYA

Residencies

Artist residencies offer early professional support for YA/YA artists who have completed our training and are pursuing careers in the arts, as well as emergent artists who have never participated in YA/YA before. Those accepted for six-month residencies benefit from 24-hour studio space, professional support, exhibit and market opportunities, supply stipends, and paid art mentorship opportunities. Through residencies, YA/YA builds bridges to the broader New Orleans arts community, while bringing fresh projects and artistic insights to our core studio programs.

Recent YA/YA Artists-in-Residence:

  • Carrie Craven completed her residency project in summer 2010, and it is currently on exhibit in the Education Gallery at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The project centers around a three-dimensionaly map of New Orleans, in which found objects bring to life the mysteries and sub-text of the city, as Carrie associates them with different neighborhoods and artifacts.
  • Kristin Eckstein completed a set of memory pieces in mixed media on canvas. Kristin's pieces are about the decay and rediscovery of New Orleans and was recently exhibited at the Contemporary Arts Center as well as during our "Just Say YAYA" 2010 art showcase. Currently, selections from Kristin's residency project are on exhibit at YA Spot Sound Cafe.

Current Artist-in-Residence:

  • YA/YA alumna Monica Tyran.
